BLOCK PLAY

A heartfelt thank you to Jean Barresi, ERS State Anchor, for leading such an insightful and practical session. Jean guided educators in examining how block centers can meet higher-quality indicators through adequate materials, defined spaces, meaningful conversations, and opportunities for extended play.

Workshops like this support educators in strengthening quality practices while honoring the unique home-based environments of family child care programs.

On Saturday, January 31, members of the Staffed Family Child Care Network Region 4

gathered at the Westport Library for an engaging workshop on Block Play.

Participants explored the powerful role blocks play in early childhood programs—

supporting problem-solving, creativity, language development,

and social skills. Educators also left with block kits and accessories to bring

these hands-on learning experiences back to their own programs.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a success. We loved learning alongside you and can’t wait to see how block play comes to life in your classrooms!

Earlier this month, the Staffed Family Child Care Network in Region 4 hosted a Block Play workshop. Attendees learned why block play is so important in early childhood programs and how to encourage rich play. They also left with materials! Deb Rollinson from Bridgeport sent in this photo and said "The children at "Wee Care Day Care" love the unit blocks and accessories I received from the block workshop. Thank you!"

This past weekend, the Region 5 Staffed Family Child Care Network proudly hosted a dynamic Block Play Workshop designed specifically for family child care

educators, with a focus on strengthening practices aligned with the FCCERS.

We were excited to welcome 20 dedicated educators who spent the day exploring how thoughtful block play experiences connect directly to FCCERS indicators. Together, participants reflected on how the environment, materials, and intentional teacher interactions elevate block play from simple construction to rich, developmentally supportive learning. We’re so grateful to everyone who participated and continues to invest in continuous quality improvement for young children.

Provider Yanerys Aziz in Region 5 shared these joyful

moments of children fully immersed in block play.

“It’s incredible what children can do with these materials,” Yanerys says “They’ve been working on their projects

since early on—applying all their knowledge, including mathematics, sharing, taking turns, science…

and I can relate to what Jean said in class.”

We're so excited to see that learning come to life in the classroom!

We had a fantastic time during our recent Staffed Family Child Care Network Block Play Workshop in Region 6! A big shoutout to

Gloria from Just Like Home Day Care in Colchester,

who received her very own block set—and she couldn’t be happier!

The children are absolutely loving it and having so much fun

exploring, building, and learning through play.

Gloria shared her heartfelt thank you, and we’re so glad to see

the impact these materials are having in her program.

"The children at Le Petit Family Daycare in Stratford are having so much fun with their Count & Link Activity toy from the Region 4 Staffed Family Child Care Network!

It’s a fantastic way for them to practice counting, linking, and learning numbers

through play. A big Thank You for this wonderful and educational gift -

the kids love it!" - Marta Lee Chiquito, FCC Educator in Stratford

SNOW what fun!!!

As this winter storm keeps us cozy indoors, we’re sharing a throwback to last week when children at Hartley Home Daycare got to enjoy the snow firsthand. Lots of smiles, movement, and winter fun!

"At Le Petit Family Daycare, we thoughtfully design our curriculum to nurture well-rounded children who are prepared to thrive in an interconnected world.

We proudly celebrate and embrace all cultures, creating an environment where every child feels valued, respected, and included. This year, the children enjoyed learning about and celebrating the Chinese New Year, exploring its traditions and customs in

a meaningful way." - Marta Lee, family child care provider in SFCCN Region 4

Lynn Legary, a family child care educator in Lebanon, shared this photo and said "Kreative Kids Home Daycare having a fun filled week with reading, rhyming and silliness too! It’s always fun to learn something new!"

Damaris Camacho and the children at Little Sharks Daycare in Willimantic are having a fantastic time celebrating Read Across America Day and the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss!

From silly rhymes to colorful stories, the children are diving into books, using their imaginations, and discovering just how fun reading can be. Activities like these help build a lifelong love of books while

supporting early language and literacy development.

Way to go, Little Sharks Daycare, for making reading an adventure!
