Empowering Ourselves and Encouraging our Students with Positive Discipline
How can we get our students to listen to us? Why can’t they just get along? How can we use encouragement with our words and actions to be a strong role model for our students? What is Positive Discipline and how can we use it in our classrooms?
Positive Discipline is based on the idea that children do better when they feel better; actually all people do better when they feel better. It is based on the understanding that in order to correct our students’ behavior…first we need to connect. It is based on treating others with dignity and mutual respect. But what does that look like?
Teachers will learn tools and strategies to use right away in your classroom that will increase cooperation and foster a more peaceful classroom environment and help us to feel good at the end of the day.
You will learn through experiential learning what your students are thinking, feeling and deciding during times of conflict.
Throughout the three-hour workshop, we will learn tools that will help us to yell less, invite cooperation and build self-esteem, resiliency and responsibility. We will learn communication skills that will not only help in our classrooms but in our everyday lives.
We are the role models for our students and our energy is everything! As a teacher, you give so much of yourself in everything that you do. We also need to focus on our self-care in order to “show up” as our best selves for these kids. They deserve the best and so do you!
Kristen Ancker M.S. Ed. has been facilitating Positive Discipline workshops for parents and teachers for the past 10 years and working with children and schools for the past 20. Kristen has worked as a Montessori teacher, Director, Assistant Head of School and now is a school consultant and Parent Coach. She practices what she preaches every day with her three kids ages 11, 8 and 5 and has made many mistakes along the way.
